About

My name is Derek Leman. Maybe like me you have a desire to find meaning in the Biblical writings. For years I had a large email list of people who shared that desire. LemanBibleCommentary.com is the fruit of that email list and a replacement for it.

What qualifies me to write Bible commentary? I don’t have any kind of insider information or divine access. I read the very human writings of the Bible just like you or anyone else. I was a congregational rabbi for fifteen years and during that time I did my homework. I read a lot. I attended the Society of Biblical Literature annual meetings. I was a popular niche blogger in the realm of Messianic Judaism. That’s why you’ll find my love for the Gospels as well as the Torah here.

I live a very different life now. I’m a Realtor in the Atlanta, Georgia area. So why keep up any work with the biblical text? Because, like you, I’m searching daily for meaning. Although the writings of the Bible are very human, I do think the writers (mostly anonymous people) had a connection to God at various times in history when he was less silent than he is now. I don’t think there is any other literature out there with quite the same connection.
