TORAH

Pentateuch. Books of Moses. Books of the Law. You know, Genesis-Exodus-Leviticus-Numbers-Deuteronomy.

This page is an index of information from LemanBibleCommentary.com about the Torah.

You will find a pitifully small selection of articles here. At one time I was considering writing more and perhaps will return to it. My #1 recommendation for anyone interested in a modern, informed approach to Torah is to read the writings of Richard Elliott Friedman, especially his wonderful book, Who Wrote the Bible.

PORTION BY PORTION COMMENTARIES

Divided into sections based on the Jewish reading cycle in which the entire Torah is read each year.

HISTORY OF THE TORAH

At one time there were four works of history, theology, and law whose stories and purposes overlapped. These became the Torah in the time of Ezra the scribe. In this section you will find my explanations of the history behind the Torah, which informs the way we read the Torah now.
